Only three years into his career and ALLCAPITAL (a.k.a. ALLCAPS) has assembled a strong discography that captures his versatility across multiple hip hop subgenres. He first entered my awareness when he guest featured on a song that I performed scratches on (which was ultimately one of his first ever releases) and I have since had the fortune to see both his constant progression and persistence. Hailing from the Adelaide suburb of Blackwood, ALLCAPITAL maintained an affiliation with local group Stellar Mental and then later formed a solid collaborative duo with TommyyTerror. He has a headline show coming up in Adelaide this week so I thought it would be a good time to highlight what I believe to be some of the standout songs in his catalogue which only continues to grow.
- “1AM ON RUNDLE” (with TommyyTerror)
- “Acid Rain”
- “Caine” (with Bubsy.B)
- “Crushed Moons” (with Wombat)
- “HASTE” (with Semba)
- “HILLTOP” (with Bubsy.B)
- “LOWKEY!” (with TommyyTerror)
- “SCARS”
- “Soul Food”
- “THRILLS”
- “TWEAKIN’ PT.2”
“1AM ON RUNDLE” (with TommyyTerror)
ALLCAPITAL and TommyyTerror lay back on this choice cut from their 2024 collaborative extended play CAPITALTERROR which truly does capture the feeling of riding down Rundle Street on a 1am time other than on weekends. The music video produced by No.One Network pictures the two matching the track’s atmosphere by floating in a pool and feeding alpacas.
“Acid Rain”
ALLCAPITAL takes it back today with the 2024 single-only “Acid Rain”. The rhythmic chorus is only a lull for a verse that has him riding the beat with speed to perfection. As he states on the song, no plan B is needed with output like this.
“Caine” (with Bubsy.B)
ALLCAPITAL partners with Bubsy.B of Stellar Mental for this track from the 2022 extended play Black Dragon. This is superb.
“Crushed Moons” (with Wombat)
ALLCAPITAL pulls off a remarkable guest feature from his 2024 album Utopia; both in terms of who it is and how similar they both sound. Wombat turns in a trademark performance alongside ALLCAPITAL who holds his own.
“HASTE” (with Semba)
Ever expansive in musical stylings, ALLCAPITAL teams up with Semba of Stellar Mental to release his first drum-and-bass-influenced song. Semba comes with a charismatic hook and verse in his half-sung style but ALLCAPITAL’s assertive contribution ensures that he matches the energy. He makes the claim too that he has “been the best up in the state”; an argument can hold weight! I was stoked too to be able to produce the music video for this song.
“HILLTOP” (with Bubsy.B)
ALLCAPITAL and Bubsy.B reunite two years after “Caine” for their second collaboration. This is an ode to their native Blackwood. Shouts to Bubsy for the cold appearance.
“LOWKEY!” (with TommyyTerror)
“LOWKEY!” sees ALLCAPITAL returning to the drum-and-bass style of “HASTE” but taking over the hook responsibilities of Semba and giving a brief guest spot to TommyyTerror. The result is solid.
“SCARS”
“SCARS” is epic, abrasive and self-conscious. It results in one of the strongest performances of ALLCAPITAL’s discography.
“Soul Food”
“Soul Food” was ALLCAPITAL’s first single with a music video; it was also my first too when we collaborated to film the one-take. This was the song that first made me aware of his abilities purely by the song’s boom-bap style which is executed exquisitely. Credit to ALLCAPITAL for growing his abilities far beyond this.
“THRILLS”
The lead single from ALLCAPITAL’s 2022 debut album TWEAKIN’ is a level above “Soul Food” and still captures the boom-bap feel that was evident throughout his earlier career. Excellent hook on this one.
“TWEAKIN’ PT.2”
“TWEAKIN’ PT.2” is essential ALLCAPITAL. The beat bounces as he provides an overview of his life and rap style. As he states, “I learned it from the greats and they gon’ know me when I’m finished.”
