The emergence of a new hip hop group with chemistry, charisma and wide appeal is already becoming visible across the horizon with the release of “eastside w my dogs” by WHATMORE. The group of five young dudes – rappers Yoshi T and Sebastiano; rapper/singers Cisco Swank and Jackson August; and producer/engineer Elijah Judah – out of New York have been building buzz with their original performances over existing instrumentals on Instagram which has seen them earn 100,000s of views. It is impressive for a group that has only officially been together since the end of last year; all members are childhood friends that have had varying levels of investments into their own solo careers and subsequently had multiple collaborations with each other before forming the group.
The hype is right and they have made a strong debut with the release of “eastside w my dogs” as their first official original song as a group. It features bouncy and high-spirited production by Elijah Judah that sets the table for Sebastiano, Cisco Swank and Jackson August to boast of their hometown prevalence and impending successes. Sure enough, it is theirs for the taking if they continue with their rise.
“eastside w my dogs” was released with a music video directed by Patrick Linehan that shows WHATMORE riding on the top of a double-decker bus through New York City much to the mixed reactions of annoyance, confusion and interest from their fellow passengers. It was preceded by the release of a hilarious trailer that shows the group being complimented on the appeal of their racial diversity by what sounds like an apparent manager promising the world before true intentions are revealed. This is a group to watch.
