Johniepee has displayed his versatility over various hip hop styles but I think he finds himself most assured on jazz rap sounds and that is why his new release, “Catch me if you can”, is solid. A dedication to perseverance and affirming the belief that the chase is greater than the reward, Johniepee finds himself accepting how life has turned out for him. He mentions his recent marriage (big ups!), success on both coasts of Australia (he was raised and now based in Perth but started his career in Sydney) and overcoming personal injury (he only raps half the time; he also is a personal trainer). “Catch me if you can” is reminiscent of his most popular song, “Zebra”, so it should have the ability to regain the attention of an audience Johniepee has long been overdue.
