Daz Dillinger returns to the sounds of late-1990s West Coast hip hop with his new album Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back 2. The sequel to his 1998 solo debut Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back, Daz Dillinger stays true to the sound of his career and crafts a largely contented yet solid album. It features a deep list of features including some of his longtime collaborators including fellow Tha Dogg Pound member Kurupt, RBX and Soopafly. Posthumous appearances are in abundance too: Big Syke, Prince Ital Joe and Carlos McSwain all appear from previously recorded material. Ice-T receives a feature credit for his appearance in a phone call at the end of “Start Bacc Bangin”. The production team is uncredited but likely to be handled primarily by Daz Dillinger; there are clean and breezy instrumentals steeped in g-funk throughout. Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back 2 is a throwback to how hip hop once sounded at its 1990s peak.
