Another three signings take place in the NBL over the last week. The Brisbane Bullets make two of them: they sign both a former league most valuable player and the son of a different former league most valuable player. Melbourne United also promote a player who has spent the last three years in their development system to their main roster.

Jaylen Adams to Brisbane Bullets

Position: Guard
From: Sydney Kings
2024–25 statistics: 18.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, .7 blocks, 1.6 steals, 41.5% field goal, 35.8% three-point, 78.3% free throw

The Brisbane Bullets go for a sensible signing with the recruitment of a proven commodity: Jaylen Adams who has spent the last two seasons with the Sydney Kings. It was Adams’ second stint with the Kings who first joined them for the 2021–22 season and won the league’s most valuable player award with 20.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. Adams and the Kings went on to win the 2022 NBL championship. He made the decision to go elsewhere for the 2022–23 season which was ultimately an underwhelming experience as a reserve for Crvena zvezda in Serbia and the Qingdao Eagles in China. Adams returned to the Kings in 2023 and has averaged around 18.5 points per game over the last two seasons but the team has performed poorly in the postseason which has likely impacted on his reception; he has not made an All-NBL team during that time. Adams has had a productive offseason in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) where he won the championship and was named to the All-BAL First Team with Al Ahli Tripoli. Adams is an established performer in the NBL with three seasons of experience now and his signing is a solid addition for the Bullets. It serves as a counter to the complete mystery of incoming head coach Stu Lash who has never coached in a professional environment before.

Jensen Bradtke to Brisbane Bullets

Position: Forward
From: Gold Coast Rollers (NBL1 North)
2025 statistics: 18.2 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 blocks, .8 steals, 48.0% field goal, 74.7% free throw

The Brisbane Bullets keep their most valuable player-affiliated signings consistent with the addition of Jensen Bradtke as a development player. He is the son of Mark Bradtke who is one of Australia’s premier big men and was selected as the NBL’s most valuable player with the Melbourne Tigers in 2002. Mark finished his career with the Bullets in 2007; Jensen gets the opportunity to continue that legacy with the same team 18 years later. Bradtke spent the 2024–25 season with the Montana Golden Grizzlies in NCAA Division I where he averaged 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in limited minutes. He returned to Australia for the offseason where he has posted impressive numbers with the Gold Coast Rollers in NBL1 North. Bradtke signs a two-year development player contract with a mutual option for the second season.

Malith Machar to Melbourne United

2025 statistics: 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, .7 blocks, .8 steals, 50.8% field goal, 79.8% free throw

Malith Machar earns the first full roster spot of his career with Melbourne United after spending the last three seasons in their system. He was a development player from 2022 to 2024 and then returned as a training player for the 2024–25 season. Machar has appeared in nine games with limited minutes for United during that time. His NBL1 stints are a better representation of what he can do and he has now spent the last five seasons playing there. Machar is presently posting formidable numbers with the Sandringham Sabres; his head coach is United assistant coach David Barlow. United have decided now is time for Machar to be rewarded with a permanent spot on the roster and he will get to showcase his abilities this season.
